“Write what you know” is a common piece of
advice for the beginning writer. But I prefer to write what I don’t know.
The fun is in the learning. I tend to pursue whatever piques my interest –
a broad range of subjects, both profound and quirky. These include just
about anything (from golf course architecture and game shows to sports car
racing and civil rights) and anyone (from Joe DiMaggio and Joyce Brothers
to Howard Cosell and Henry Heimlich).
While looking through clips of my work over the past few years, I even
discovered a sort of poetry in the diversity. Here follows one man’s
